Planning a BatMitzvah at our Shul
Mazeltov on your daughter’s forthcoming Batmitzvah. There are many aspects to consider regarding this very important and exciting event. We have set out some of the main areas below. Please feel free to phone either of the wardens or Rabbi Davis to discuss anything relating to the planning of the simcha.
You will need to complete an application form which will enable us to proceed with the initial arrangements efficiently. This is available from the Shul office.
Rabbi Davis will contact you regarding lessons for the preparation of the Batmitzvah.
Shabbat or Sunday?
Most Batmitzvahs are now celebrated at the end of the service on Shabbat. Sunday programs can still be arranged, if you prefer, but there are many extra costs involved with a Sunday event i.e. Chazan, choir, caretaker, programs etc.
Shul attendance:
Please make every effort to attend Shul regularly with your daughter prior to the Batmitzvah. This will not only help you become familiar with the service, but will also make you feel comfortable in our Shul, make friends and feel part of our wonderful community.
Aliyot - Call-ups:
Although we make every effort to call up family and friends of your choice to the Reading of the Law, we are not always able to accommodate your whole list. We therefore ask you, prior to the Barmitzvah, to prepare a list, in order of priority, of whom you wish to be given a Mitzvah if possible.
Hiring of the Shul Hall:
If you wish to hold your function in the Shul Hall, please contact the secretary for details and costs. All caterers supervised by the London Beth Din are allowed. If you wish to use other supervised caterers, please contact Rabbi Davis before booking. Self catering with pre-prepared supervised food, your own waitresses and crockery hired from the Shul can be arranged through the Ladies Guild. Such an event will need to be supervised to ensure that all Kashrut requirements are met.
We look forward to assisting you with your arrangements and sharing your simcha
with you.
