L.Green 2-29 off 5 overs

Result- Newlands 1st XI win by 8 wickets

On an overcast day with forecast of thunderstorms later on, Danny Myers, the Chigwell captain, won the toss and elected to bat first.

Chigwell were up against it right from the first few overs when Boland tore into the Chigwell batting dismissing Elliot Solarz for a cheap duck and Kandirand bowling tightly at the other end. Despite the nervy start, Chigwell managed to chip away at the runs with extras producing the majority of the runs. Simon Warren, Chigwell's most impressive batsman, looked comfortable at one end but the wickets began to fall once Katseph was bowled by Nyman. Danny Myers played very sensibly as a role model but ran out of support at the other end as Nyman was putting the ball in the right place, Ealham-like, to frustrate Chigwell. It was becoming increasingly hard to get the ball out of the fielding restriction and wickets continued to fall as a result of their impatience. The most comical moment of the innings came when L.Green attempted a heave through the mid-on region but sliced it behind the wicket-keeper into space and somehow managed to get run out in the process. Kandisand ripped through the tail to restrict the total to 74 runs off 28 overs.

During the tea interval, the weather deteriorated significantly and this meant that Newlands were not willing to waste any time in reaching the target set.

Despite some good tight bowling by L.Green early on, Wolpe played some classic shots when given room to unleash and he put on 39 runs abled by Durban, who was out to a well flighted delivery in front of stumps. Finally, Wolpe hit the winning runs for a resounding victory which was never in any doubt considering the gap in class between the two sides.

Overall, Chigwell gained valuable experience from facing the top bowlers in Jewish cricket and will remember their cup exploits with pride!
