Belmont 2nds won by 2 wickets with 15 balls to spare

Chigwell & Hainault recovered from a poor start that saw them reduced to 18 for 4 after 11 overs. A stand of 49 between Danny Myers (21) and Richard Allen (32) stabilised the innings with Ian Murray (21 not out) holding the lower order together for some valuable runs. Four of Chigwell’s batsmen were run out and a tight spell of 2 wickets for 6 runs in 8 overs by Jeff Permutt contributed to Chigwell scoring at less than 2 an over in the first half of their innings.

Belmont were reduced to 45 for 7 thanks to some good all round cricket from Chigwell with the bowling of Danny Myers (2 for 21 off 8 overs), Lloyd Green (3 for 20 off 8 overs) and Kevin Sinclair (1 for 26 off 8 overs) making runs hard to come by. An excellent run out by Kevin Sinclair as well as a catch showed why he had been awarded the “Man of the Season” award for 2001 during the tea interval. Gold (45 not out) and Enlander (23) came to Belmont’s rescue and in a close match Belmont took the honours by 2 wickets with just 15 balls to spare.
