Chigwell and Hainault v Edgware Wanderers 2nds Chigwell and Hainault 150 for 8 (31 overs) Edgware Wanderers 2nds won by 3 wickets Chigwell skipper Danny Myers returned for a second bowling spell late in this top of the table clash and took three wickets in his returning over. But ultimately it wasn't enough and Edgware Wanderers 2nds ran out eventual winners. Both sides had 12 points and jointly topped the table before this game. Victory for Chigwell would have seen them as 3rd division champions but it wasn't to be. Missing several key players, their innings began badly with Gold, Solarz and Myers all being dismissed with only 16 runs on the board. Sinclair came to wicket with Richard Allen and steadied the ship to some extent before he was out for 7 with the team's score on 30. This brought Daniel Engelsman to the wicket and they brought about a complete reversal of fortune. 74 runs later Allen was bowled looking for a hefty drive off a straight ball that would have brought his first ever 50 - out for 47, still his highest score to date and the highest score of this match. Michael Carson came to the wicket and showed his intent by lifting his first ball for 6. His cameo innings ended with 21 runs, including a second 6. Chigwell lost quick wickets in search of runs as their innings drew to a close with Engelsman having amassed his highest score, 37 n.o. Given that there had been two breaks for rain and that steady rain accompanied much of the innings the score of 150 off 31 overs (reduced by rain) was a credible target but was unlikely to be enough given Chigwell's weakened bowling line-up. Richie Weinberg was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets for 21, those being Gold with his fourth delivery, Sinclair in the last over of his first spell and Carson with his final delivery. Tony Allen enjoyed figures of 2 for 28 and Spencer was the only other wicket taker, ending with 1 for 16 from his 6 overs. Edgware's inning began brightly, both in terms of scoring and even in terms of the weather!! Nick Stern (14) and Joel Sager (25) pushed the scoring on well and on Stern's dismissal Gabriel John came to the wicket. His innings of 31 n.o. became the foundation on which the remainder of the innings was constructed. Weinberg was out for 16, including two 6s and when Goddard was dismissed by Myers after a bright 20 the foundations certainly rocked as first Samuels and then Ellis were both dismissed without scoring. Edgware had gone from 135 for 3 to 135 for 6 and had only added 1 more run when Allen dismissed Mendelsohn. 136 for 7 and suddenly Chigwell appeared to be back in the game. But it was not to be as Spencer (9 n.o.) and John saw Edgware home. Danny Myers ended with figures of 3 for 26 from his spell and Ian Murray, who opened the bowling with Myers, took 2 wickets for 37. Sinclair (1 for 37) and Allen (1 for 38) also took wickets in 6 over spells, and Shine (WK), Englesman, Solarz and Allen all held catches. But it was not enough and Edgware go to the top of the league in their final fixture, Chigwell with one game to play are four point behind them. |
