Southgate v Chigwell and Hainault Chigwell and Hainault: 139 for 7 (30 overs) Chigwell and Hainault won by 15 runs Southgate fail to gain revenge for Ronnie Shapiro Cup Defeat All round effort by Chigwell all rounder Jeff Freedman with both bat and ball helped Chigwell & Hainault to victory in this good spirited friendly. Southgate won the toss and elected to field. Jeff Freedman opened for Chigwell with Elliot Solarz and they got Chigwell off to a good start with 22 runs coming the first 4 overs. Solarz was out for 4 and Freedman was then supported in partnerships by all the top order batsmen with Allen (10) Sinclair (2) leaving Freedman to dominate the bowling with Chigwell & Hainault scoring at 5 an over right through to the 20th over. When Freedman was out for 53 (incl 2x6s and 4x4s) the scoring slowed until Lloyd Green, captaining the side in the absence of Danny Myers, held the middle and late order together whilst contributing 24 not out (1x6, 1x4). Scott (4), Myers (1) and Kaye (3no) supported Green and Chigwell & Hainault finished on 139 for 7 off the allotted 30 overs setting Southgate 140 to win at 4.67 an over. Southgate's leading bowlers were Paul Bean with 3 for 12 and his father Ray Bean with 2 for 26. When Southgate batted they got off to a slow start and lost 3 wickets cheaply to Chigwell's opening bowlers Kaye and Stoller. This brought David Brummer and Ray Bean together and together they dominated the bowling taking the run rate way over the required rate. However this ended when Brummer (23) was bowled by Lloyd Green and this marked a turning point with Chigwell's bowlers regaining their earlier dominant position making runs hard to come by and was supported by excellent fielding and good catching from the whole Chigwell squad. Wickets fell regularly and Southgate were all out for 124, leaving Chigwell & Hainault the winners by 15 runs. Ray Bean was not out 54, but ran out of support. The pick of Chigwell & Hainault's bowlers were Jeff Freedman with 4 for 11 and Gavin Stollar with 3 for 36. Lloyd Green (1 for 7 off 3 overs) and Stuart Kaye (1 for 16 of 6 overs) supported well with economical spells. |
